BALNEOTHERAPY LABORATORY

Balneotherapy – branch of health service, which utilizes natural curative materials (e.g. mineral waters, mud baths, brine, sometimes gases available in certain springs).

Influence of brine baths on human organism.

For a long time it has been known that curative baths in chloride and sodium (brine) water have beneficial, curative effects, both thanks to their physical and chemical properties. After a bath, saline coating forms on skin, which prolongs curative properties of such bath. Salt depositing in epidermis changes nerve endings in the upper layer of dermis. They change its sensitivity and so influence the functioning of autonomic nervous system, which regulates functions of all organs. Brine also activates metabolism, modifies heat disposal and normalize blood pressure.

General recommendations for brine baths:

  • skin diseases
  • Bechterew's Disease (Ankylosing spondylitis)
  • degenerative joint diseases
  • neurosurgical diseases
  • vegetative neurosis
  • post-injury conditions of bones and joints
  • conditions with increased muscular tension
  • rheumatic diseases
  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • conditions requiring increased resistance to infection
  • recovery after serious diseases
  • obesity
  • some gynaecological diseases

We render the following treatments in Balneology Laboratory:

  • brine pearl baths
  • brine baths with hydromassage
  • static brine baths
  • brine baths of upper limbs
  • brine baths of lower limbs
  • whirl brine baths of upper limbs
  • whirl brine baths of lower limbs
  • brine baths in the cave
  • individual training in brine cave with an instructor
  • individual brine inhalations by means of nebulisator

Pearl baths:

They are made in a tub, where air injected by a pump is fed by means of nozzles installed at the bottom, which causes pearl massage.

Recommendations:

  • autonomous regulation treatment
  • rheumatic diseases
  • some gynaecological diseases
  • light organic and functional heart diseases
  • hypertension in phase I and II
  • insomnia

Baths in a tub with hydromassage

Tub with hydromassage is equipped with nozzles, embedded in tub walls, which make hydromassage. This massage takes place in a solution of warm brine. It relaxes the muscles, congestion of tissues, accelerates outflow of lymph and venous blood to the heart.

Recommendations:

  • hardening of muscles as a result of incorrect posture and overload
  • tiredness after intensive work of muscles
  • muscular atrophy due to inactivity
  • contractures of fingers, tendons and ligaments
  • conditions after fractures, dislocation, twisting
  • conditions after soft tissue injuries
  • poliomyelitis
  • degenerative joint diseases
  • Bechterew's Disease
  • ischialgia
  • metabolic diseases

Total and partial baths in a static tub

It is a bath in brine in neutral temperature (+/- 35 -36°C) and concentration recommended by a doctor.

Recommendations:

  • nervous excitement
  • sleep disorders
  • hypertension in phase I and II
  • neuralgia
  • skin diseases (psoriasis)
  • rheumatic diseases

Whirl baths of upper and lower limbs

Otherwise it is also referred to as whirl massage. Curative factors of this bath are increased temperature and whirling movement of water. Whirling water delicately massages limbs, which has analgesic and relaxing influence on muscles. Moreover, blood circulation in tissues accelerates, swelling and haemostasis are reduced.

Recommendations for whirl baths:

  • rheumatic diseases of upper and lower limbs
  • some forms of peripheral circulation disorders
  • conditions after venous thrombus
  • early stage of stenosing arteritis
  • Raynaud’s disease

Individual training in the cave with an instructor:

Positive properties of this bath include the influence of warmth and brine solution, relaxation of muscles, which facilitates exercising. Moving in water not only trains muscles and joints, but also has the influence on other organs, e.g. improving resistance of the organism. It is especially important for improvement of the conditions of people with diseases of the motoric organ, as exercises, which are difficult to make on a hard surface, are easy in water due to apparent body weight loss. Exercises are performed under control of qualified physiotherapists.

Recommendations:

  • rheumatism and other rheumatoid diseases
  • degenerative changes in joints and articular cartilages
  • conditions after spinal column fractures
  • incorrect posture
  • overload of muscles

Inhalations

This method is based on introduction of various curative compounds to respiratory system, due to application of equipment, which produces curative aerosols of different degree of distribution. The most important aim of brine inhalations are:

  • moisturizing of air passages, improving the functions of ciliated epithelium
  • accelerated regeneration of ciliated epithelium
  • dilution of condensed and viscous excretion of mucosal membrane of air passages
  • reduction of inflammatory swelling of mucosal membrane
  • relief of bronchial tubes unstriated muscles cramp

General recommendations for inhalation:

  • chronic diseases of upper and lower air passages
  • emphysema
  • allergies

Recommendations:

  • diseases of upper and lower air passages
  • chronic rhinitis and pharyngitis
  • diseases of upper air passages
  • chronic bronchitis
  • emphysema and pneumoconiosis
